Why This Lists?

About a year ago I had become an editor for DMOZ (http://www.dmoz.com) , the largest human organized directory of web sites on the internet.  It is the database that a large portion of the search engines (including Google) use to arrive at websites on many topics.  One of those topics is Classical Realism.

In my own personal research as an artist, I decided to volunteer and organize the category CR. The category seemed to be the closest to the style I admired and tried to emulate as an artist.

When I began editing, I became fasinated and drawn into the world known as Classical Realism and Naturalism.  I discovered an entire sub-culture that I never knew existed.  This was not my first experience with artistic sub-cultures, however, as I had become familiar with one when I joined several Miniature organizations.  I realized the subject had it's own laws and rules, it's own stars, and its own way of "doing things".

As months went by and I reviewed hundreds of possible Classical Realist web sites, I noticed that many of the artists learned at the same schools around the world.  Some even had studied under several people that where quickly in my mind becoming "important" to the CR&N culture.

The list of web sites and people contained within this site does not reflect the official DMOZ database.  Their database is a compilation of links of Classical Realist artists that has been submitted by the public and other editors, then approved for posting.   The DMOZ database has a few limitations, which is why i feel that my list is an important additional resource.  DMOZ's database can not contain "deep links" (which are sub-pages of a main site), duplicate listings (unless specially approved and even then it is not guarenteed), can not list an artist in more then one category, and has a very hard time categorizing artists that have one site representing many different aspects of their work.

The lists on this site is my own research and is A-POLITICAL.  I have no specific ties to any of the people or schools listed.  If you want to help with my list and feel i have missed very crucial info or made an error (which i am bound to do!) please feel free to contact me bill indursky (William Eric) bill@flashcap.com.

Recently, I have also been accepted to edit Art Schools and Academies for DMOZ so feel free to send me all kinds of schools!  Even links those (dare i say it) teach modernist ideals and aesthetics.  (I have a masters degree in Architecture from UC, OH and we where taught mostly modernist ideals).

The list that I have been working on of CLASSICAL REALISM and NATURALISM (CR&N) has a strong bias toward all things painting.
